The yatra started from Nalhareshwar temple in Nalhar. According to the caretaker of the temple and the people involved in the yatra, more than 4,000 people were trapped in the temple when the riot broke out. To handle this crowd, even 10 policemen were not present at the gate of the temple.
People trapped in the temple said that there were a few policemen inside the temple during the disturbance. When the riots broke out, the people of the march ahead ran back towards the temple. The policemen present here were not able to handle the situation. They kept on calling for help from the authorities. However, it took several hours for the force to reach.
The riots started only after reaching one and a half kilometers of the yatra. The miscreants created ruckus in the entire city for 6 hours. More than 150 vehicles were burnt. 5 people, including 2 Home Guard jawans, died, but why are the 900 policemen who are claimed to be deployed nowhere visible in the videos related to the violence.
